Liverpool.... came in second again!

I'm a Liverpool fan. I have to admit.

Yesterday, Liverpool faced Arsenal. Arsenal is a team that play the prettiest football in the Premiership. And going into the game knowing that Liverpool's away form have not been up to scratch, Arsenal sure would have been a tough nut to crack.

Going into the game, Rafa Benitez fielded a weak side considering that Arsenal have plenty of midfield dynamos and playmakers in Cesc Fabregas, Alexander Hleb etc and despite the fact that Momo Sissoko was out with a shoulder injury, Benitez placed Gerrard on the right side. It turned out to be an appalling decision and yeah, you bet, it didn't pay dividends.

Zenden in the middle of the park? Yeah, right. It's like putting a fifth-grader there and asking him to do a monumental task like, say, stopping Gilberto from working some magic. Or, perhaps not. I'm sure the kiddie would have done a better job than Zenden did because he might have been a distraction to the Arsenal players.

And Gonzalez on the left flank? Lol. Benitez should know better than to put Gonzalez there. He has not much experience in the Premiership. And to actually see him play, I would have gotten a heart attack already.

Seeing the replay, the first goal that we conceded was Alonso and Gonzalez's fault. Hleb was running in towards the edge of the penalty box, and Gonzalez was running out. Seeing Hleb running in, what could have been worse than to actually see Gonzalez reacting slowly(and I do mean slowly) to Hleb's swift movement. And Alonso could not have done better by not tracking Flamini's run, allowing Fabregas to square the ball to Flamini. Flamini, needing only a touch to put it in, did not disappoint, well, Arsene Wenger of course.

Second goal. Hmm.. How was it?? Ohh. I recalled. Pure bad defending allowed van Persie to put the ball through to Toure's path and Toure deftly put it beyond Reina's reach. Well, not exactly though. Toure just scored with a simple touch. I was decimated by then.

Third goal? van Persie took the corner kick and delivered it beautiiiifuuulyyyy for Gallas to head in, unmarked! I mean, the only thing seem impossible, when the ball was comin down for Gallas to head it in, is for Gallas to miss the header or to glance the ball well wide. But, of course, that did not happen. Even if Gallas would want to miss the header, he wouldn't actually complete the feat. He was simply left unmarked!! Who to blame? The Almighty Gerrard! Liverpool's tactics when comes to defending set-pieces have always been zonal marking. Gerrard was in front of Riise at the far post. Before the kick, Gallas was glued to Riise and Henry to Gerrard. And when the kick was taken, Henry moved behind towards Riise while Gallas moved in front of Gerrard. And all after remains history. Gerrard was seen arguing with Riise after the goal. Gerrard must have been confused of zonal marking with man-marking.

A disappointing result!

But I'll remain positive.

A Newbie

I never thought I would actually do this. But I thought I would give it a go, considering that I've got plenty of free time to burn. I've read loads of posting though. And I thoroughly enjoy some. Anyway, considering that this is my first post, I wouldn't start ranting about things that might or might not matter to anyone. So, i'll leave it at that and i'll be looking forward to my next post. Cheers.
